First Step

Anger

Something that most of us don't want to admit to, much less study, and are even less interested in looking into in our own lives. One of the things I have learned about me is that whatever I think I am angry about...that is not what I am angry about. I have to go through a process to actually get to the heart of the problem and deal with it. And deal with it I must. Or it grows and festers and infects everything I do, every relationship I have, especially my relationship with My Heavenly Father.

And like all people, I do have anger issues that require my time and attention. I have found that the book, The Heart of Anger, Practical Help for the Prevention and Cure of Anger in Children by Lou Priolo, is a good guide for me in this.

My hope is that those of you who are joining with me on this journey will benefit from it too. It may sound simplistic to you, but the first step in any sanctification process is prayer. So, our first task is to pray, for ourselves and each other. Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you, to each of us the places in our hearts where anger dwells, hides, looms. You may first need to pray for the Holy Spirit to make you receptive to His teachings on this subject, to open your eyes and mind to the existence of anger in your heart. Most all of us have it. It is just so much easier to push it down, pack it away, blame it on someone else, be 'right', proud, cynical, etc. than to deal with it. So, as you go through your days as we accumulate our study tools, be prayerful. Be honest with yourself. No one else ever has to know what goes on between you and God. We are studying this subject together but in the end, we are each accountable to God for our own hearts and minds.
